Literature-Inspired Art Mini-Course Art and literature really do go hand in hand. When reading classic literature one often finds a piece of fine art which depicts the writing. In this seminar, English literature major and art enthusiast, Julia Stowe, bridges the chasm between the two subjects by looking at four masterful works of art which were all inspired by literature. Raphael's St. George and the Dragon, Millais' Ophelia, Vermeer's Girl with the Pearl Earring and Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel will each be studied, discussed and appreciated from the perspective of both subjects. Students of all ages are encouraged to attend this four day mini-course and to participate in verbal, written and artistic assignments.
